How to rename hard drives and format them

hello guys...

is there any way to rename the hard drives or format them like we used to do in windows OSes?

Kubuntu 12.04 / KDE = Platform Version 4.8.4 (4.8.4) / Version: 0.97-29ubuntu66 / Desktop / CPU=32 bit / Intel / 2G RAM / 1 Hard Internal
