    Sharing

Ok, I've tried everything I can think of.

How do I get my Linux box and my Windows box talking to each other so that I can share drives?

ATM, my windows can see my Windows PC and my router on the network and nothing else. My Linux box can't see anything. All attempts to get my Linux box to connect with my PC box has either resulted in permission denied (it shouldn't have been as it was the correct password for Homegroup) or can't find server.

Samba is installed and working properly.

Well, if your can't see or access your Windows shares then either samba isn't working properly or at the very least isn't configured properly. Could you post more specific details about your setup, what you done and what you're specifically trying to do?

You need to be exceptionally precise and clear. For example: What does "my windows can see my Windows PC" mean exactly? Windows can see windows? that doesn't really make sense to me. Do you mean a Dolphin window can see Windows? The point is, don't make us guess.

Verify network connect-ability between the machines, discuss how you configured both, describe with detail what you try when the failure occurs, etc.

Dolphin. Go to the location bar and type in smb://<name of the windows machine on the network>

Also you could do Dolphin > Network and then see what you can auto find and connect. It works really well on my machine even on new networks with no configuration.

In Windows Explorer there's a section where it shows everything on the network including itself.

Also you could do Dolphin > Network and then see what you can auto find and connect.
That's what I was doing. It shows WorkGroup rather than HomeGroup. It doesn't allow connection.

I've also gone directly into Samba but all that asked for was the network password.

This may actually be a moot question: I've just discovered that my Linux box's mobo doesn't like having a DVD drive plugged into it.

Ok, Seem to have got it. Settings in Windows were wrong. Had to set the folders to to full public without a password.

And I got the DVD drive going. Still not sure what the problem was but it wasn't going through POST.

Another question: Now that I've got Windows to share drives with Linux how do I get the Linux box to share with Windows?

Select folder > right click > Share > Fill in what you need.
