    KDE menu speed.

    Hi! :-)

I have switched to the classic KDE menus (KDE 3.5 fashioned).
Are there any option to increase the delay (or decrease the reaction speed).
I couldn't found any GUI option or rc config file or something similar.

I found an older feature request at KDE tracker but I don't know if it has implemented yet and the developer who responed, prompted for asking at distribution forums meanwhile.
Does somebody knows any further details?
    TIA! :-)

Do you mean the animation speed ?

    Could you add:
    - your Kubuntu/KDE version : http://www.kubuntuforums.net/showthr...W-GUY-lt-lt-lt
    - the links "I found an older feature request at KDE tracker..."
    Have you tried ?

      Ehm...maybe! :-)
Let me be a bit more specific:
Hovering the mouse over the K start menu, it opens automatically the related submenus.
Eg. hovering over Settings, opens the submenu with the Nvidia settings, OpenJDK Tool, Software Sources etc. entries.
Hovering over System entry, open the submenu with Additional drivers, Dolphin, Konsole etc.

Let's say I want to launch Konsole.
I'm hovering the mouse over the System menu and start moving the mouse to the right in order to access the submenu who contains the Konsole entry.
If accidentally, move the mouse a bit to the up (while moving to the right) instead of strictly horizontally to the right, the System submenu closing and the upper one (the Settings) is opening.
I'll have to move the mouse back to the left and start all over again (to access the Konsole).

If there is a setting to delay the submenu opening, it would be great, because the delay would prevent the wrong submenu opening.
I was adjusted this setting when I was using WinXP.
In KDE 3.5, I never neaded something similar, because I didn't had this specific problem.

I'm using Kubuntu 10.12 x64. It comes with KDE 4.9.4.
I was thinking to put these specifications, in my signature (in order not to write them all over again.
I think, I'll have full access to my control panel (to edit my signature ), only after my 25th post (due to antispam policy).

      Sorry, no! :-(
I read > 100 different related posts for KDE menus, for various distributions (from Google search), but I forgot to keep this specific link.
I couldn't relocate it, at KDE bug tracker.
      My fault. I know! :-(

ah-ha, now I get it. Hmm - looking the KDE bugs: https://bugs.kde.org/

        There are:

        - Bug 276429 - clicked-on menus should stay open longer : https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=276429
        - Bug 179267 - make delay for showing submenus configurable (especially important for classic kmenu): https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=179267
        - + lot of others

So the first step has been taken - there are bug/wish reports. But I don't think that this has been fixed.

The old truth: The fastest way to implement something - make it yourself - share it with the others. There are lot of application launchers: http://www.kubuntuforums.net/showthr...tion-Launchers . The Kubuntu 13.04 is having the Homerun installed as default (recommended by the kubuntu-desktop) but it is still showing the Kickoff as the default menu.
        Have you tried ?

I'm going to vote for them, just in case. :-)
I don't know C and QT programming, so I'll leave the bugfixing and patching task for other persons, more capable than me. :-)
I'm porting nowadays my old DOS BASIC programs for modern x64 systems, mostly with FreeBASIC.
It's a good idea though, to get familiar with QT and C variations.
I'll try it, but of course it will be a long and adventurus journey.

The workarround I had so far is making a) 2 folders (Apps and Games) and putting there shortcuts for frequent using programs and b) desktop shortcuts for the very frequent ones.
Application launcers sounds much better and I'm going to try them.

For the rare using programs, K start menu is still OK. I'll just taking care to move the mouse to the very right side of menus, just before the submenus.
This way, I only have to move the pointer slightly to enter the submenu area.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH for your help!!!

This may or may not be helpful, because I use the other KDE, not classic, but it sounds like a similar problem I had when opening menus in applications. Because KMenu is different, it did not happen there, but if I opened a menu, for instance in Dolphin, and wanted to create a new folder, my previous tendency was to place the mouse in the left side of the box that went from "new" to "folder". It took a few attempts, but I started to place my cursor in the right portion of the box each time I entered a sub folder so that the distance traveled was very short. It took about 15 or 20 tries to establish a new habit, which turned out to be great, because now when I make the move to the right, I do not have to be so careful due to the short cursor travel. I ended up liking it better because it is nice to have things happen instantly, when that doesn't cause a mistake. I don't know if that will help your problem while other options become available, but if your problem is similar to what I described, it may work for you. Hope it helps.

              THANKS!!! :-)
              Every bit of information helps!

Indeed I have too, this problem with Dolphin.
Anyway! These are minor inconvinientes I suppose.
I hope that they'll be fixed at future versions.
