i just cant get flash

i'm trying out kubuntu using an 8 gig flash drive with 4 gig allocated. alls installed well and looking good, but i just want to install flash, i've looked through the forums and am ashamed to admit that most of it i dont understand. i cant find the ubuntu software centre, the muon one has a few things that are similar but it says i need to activate them (i dont know how) .. I have also tried the 2 command prompts that people have said ... sudo apt something and the restricted somerthing or other (sorry cant open it now) and it says it cant find.. I have also tried adobe and have downloaded all the options on there but it is asking what program i want to open them with.

I've been at this for several hours now and although i apologise for my vague descriptions would really appreciate it if someone could help me out

p.s. i am using firefox but am happy to use anything if i can get flash on it

What version of Kubuntu are you trying out?

sudo apt-get install kubuntu-restricted-extras

Could you copy and paste the error you get when you try that?

Look for it in package manager.

Launch Muon Package Manager from the K Menu. Click on Settings > Configure Software Sources, provide your password, and click on the Other Software tab. If, as I suspect, cdrom:[Kubuntu 12.10 _Quantel Quetzal_ - Beta i386 is checked, uncheck it, click Close and the package sources will be updated. Then close Muon and from the console retype:

sudo apt-get install kubuntu-restricted-extras

my word! there are lots of potential programs that to my inexperienced eye could work, any recomendations?

The package is just the Flash 'installer', then you have to agree, etc, in the terminal window, the 'package' then downloads and installs Flash in the terminal window, if you already know this, disregard.

Edit: Sometimes I wonder if this is where the confusion and problems lie with similar packages, there is navigation required within the terminal window itself with certain packages, requiring the window to have the focus (one left mouse click in the black area of the terminal window and the mouse cursor left to hover over black area until the process is finished).

Edit 2: I personally have never had a problem with the Flash installer, but Flash itself is annoying, it is a proprietary resource hog, enabling websites to visually 'scream' ads at you, unfortunately, it's a huge part of the internet now and a 'must have'. Hopefully one day a FOSS version will arrive.

When opening package manager it has a search bar at the top, there you can type in the package your looking for. Search for "kubuntu restricted extras"

This way you can read about the package and make changes.

You can run the Flash installer package in a terminal window without opening a package manger, I use still use Synaptic because I am somewhat old school, lol, in Synaptics settings, you can enable 'apply changes in terminal window', that's what I do.

Open a terminal window from the programs menu and type:

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras
