Unable to open adept package manager

I am new to Kubuntu and need some help. I was trying to enbable my repository files so I can update my system at adept but after enableling universe and multivers my adept packege manager could not open again. It gave me "The APT Database could not be opened! This may be caused by incorrect APT configuration or some similar problem. I have tried running apt-setup and apt-get update but to no avail. what do I do since I want to upgrade my system.

First thing you should do is paste your entire /etc/apt/sources.list so we can see if anything is wrong with it. If you want to use one that is verified to be correct, you can use the one from my forums here: http://www.linuxfordummies.org/index.php?topic=545.0
