I think my 12:10 upgrade is mashed :o(

    Hi there
Hope you can help although I fear the worst
Got a KDE crash handler during the upgrade process and then it continued to run for a bit and then froze..I left it for a good half hour before I reluctantly rebooted the machine
It was around half way through installing the software at the time
Now when I boot up 12:10 it freezes.
If I go into recovery mode, it scrolls through some stuff and freezes
Can't do "dpkg - -configure -a" because something is locked
Can't do recovery mode on older versions of the software either...
    So is it mashed then
Or is there anything clever I can do in live mode with a new install disc?
    Grateful for your advice
    Cheers
    Raaj

Can you boot into the root console? If so an apt-get -f install or an apt-get upgrade may help things. I'd try in that order.

      HI thanks
      Didn't work though

when I tried the sudo -f install got an error that "not using locking for read only lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock" and that dpkg was interrupted and must manually fix by dpkg - -configure -a. When I do that as sudo get another error "unable to access dpkg status area - read only file system"

Similar problem in the linked item below, I'd think the recommended procedure would work for you, too.
