    Re: having trouble with nero

    Hi again,
your question does not mention what format these AVI files. If they are DIVX your first problem linux out of the box does not support DIVX support can be added if you do a search of the forum both this and Ubuntu and the documentation or the DIVX web site. I personally do not know of a one click solution to your problem. However you may like to take a look at this video editor as it will take your AVI files and output as mpg which you can then produce a working DVD with no problems.

    http://kdenlive.sourceforge.net/index.php

Also I would look at some more specialised news groups like Doom9net linux users who specialise in format conversion and all things related to Video and Audio disc production.

Hope someone can be of more help regards John

Now we're beginning to understand what you want to do. You want to read an avi file as input (from a dvd?, a web site?, or memory?) and write it to a dvd in some format. What format do you wish to write?

I agree with John Bird that the most general GUI ripper that you can find is probably kdenlive, which does quite a bit more than that. Unfortunately, it is not packaged for the Kubuntu distro. It's too bad that you are unwilling to use the command line, because ffmepg (which is the command line app that kdenlive uses for format conversion) IS available in the Kubuntu repositories.
