No option to boot Kubuntu in GRUB menu

    Hey guys,
I'm a newbie to the forums so I hope this is in the right place. Here's my issue:

Having apparently successfully installed Kubuntu (dual boot), I was told I could restart my computer or continue trying the non-installed version - being unable to save files and such. I chose to reboot, but when I rebooted and the GRUB menu screen came up, there was only 2 memory tests and 2 windows 7s there was no way for me to boot Kubuntu.

Does anyone know why this happened and how I can fix it so I can run Kubuntu?

    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

Strange, its normally the other way around, you lose access to windows try reinstalling grub from a live cd and see if that helps.

              Ok here it is:

              grub>ls
              (hd0) (hd0,msdos7) (hd0,mdsdos6) (hd0,msdos5) (hd0,msdos3) (hd0,msdos2) (hd0,msdos1) (hd1) (hd1,msdos1)

I don't know how that could help but there you go
Also if it helps, I can still run Kubuntu off a live USB in the computer.

Looking online, I found suggestions to do "sudo update-grub" in the the terminal and this is what I got:

                kubuntu@kubuntu:~$ sudo update-grub
/usr/sbin/grub-probe: error: cannot find a device for / (is /dev mounted?).

I've had so many errors whilst trying to install linux, why won't it just work!!! And I want my computer back! Please help me!

Sounds like when you tried to reinstall grub you installed it using the livecd's configs (which don't exist on reboot)... try this method of reinstalling grub: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Boot-Repair

                        Thanks! It said this:

                        Boot successfully repaired.

A new file (~/Boot-Info_2012-10-21__12h08.txt) will open in your text viewer.

In case you still experience boot problem, indicate its content to:
boot.repair@gmail.com or to your favorite support forum.

You can now reboot your computer.
Please do not forget to make your BIOS boot on sda (320GB) disk!

The boot files of [Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS] are far from the start of the disk. Your BIOS may not detect them. You may want to retry after creating a /boot partition (EXT4, >200MB, start of the disk). This can be performed via tools such as gParted. Then select this partition via the [Separate /boot partition:] option of [Boot Repair]. (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootPartition)
