    Resolution problems

    Greetings all!
I've had numerous display problems with Kubuntu so far, most recently rendering my console login unusable (a problem I only solved by adding vga=normal to the grub config). At the moment everything looks a bit odd under X due to the being in 1024*768.
I am running Kubuntu (Dapper) on my laptop with a widescreen. Under windows the resolution I used to run in was something like 1440*900, however the only option on the display settings that is higher than what I have now is 1400*1050. When I choose that I end up having a desktop larger than the screen, like it's resized the desktop but not the resolution!

Any idea how I can get back to a decent resolution?

    Re: Resolution problems

    Hi,

You can try to modify the /etc/X11/xorg.conf manually.
First make a backup of it and then change all available resolution to the one you want.
Then save the file, log out and press <ctrl>+<alt>+<backspace>

It should work, if not, change the resolution for a smaller one til you will get it.

    Cheers

      Re: Resolution problems

Managed to get it working. Edited the xorg.conf and commented out some of the lower resolutions I'll never use, when I rebooted suddenly it was in the resolution I wanted (even though I didn't see it on the list!) Very odd.

      Thanks
