    Upgrading problems

I have kubuntu installed on two machines. On Machine A an icon appeared on informing me of available updates, but this did not happen on Machine B. I have rebooted several times today (kubuntu is not as stable on machine b as it is on machine a) and still no update icon. As far as I know, both repository files are identical (I copied them from one of the wikis).

I read up on this, so I think I can do an upgrade in a terminal with

    Code:
    sudo aptitude update
    sudo aptitude upgrade
but I would like to resolve this issue with adept. Thanks.

    EDIT
Well, the icon finally showed up and the update was the same for both machines. Maybe this is due to instability issues? For example, one issue is that adept doesn't launch - it doesn't even get to the enter password phase. Thanks for reading.

    Re: Upgrading problems

    hi,

in fact, this icon is showing when the computer is checking for updates... I think you can see this in /var/log/messages...
Maybe check it, the computer could take some time to check for updates, it's depending on settings of adept or in system settings i guess.

    Cheers

      Re: Upgrading problems

Thanks. I think I found the problem? When trying to copy a dvd, kubuntu crashed and I got a black background instead of my usual wallpaper. When I did a restart, I saw a bunch of error messages relating to the ext3 file system. So I rebooted into winxp and it locked up. After some research, I thought the problem might be a maxed out power supply (350w - two dvd drives, two hard drives (200 and 120 gigs), ethernet card, usb printer and scanner, etc.). So I put in a new power supply (500w). When I loaded winxp after, the error message was a bad driver for the ati card. So I updated the driver. Everything seems to be working now. Unfortunately, I don't know what combination of things actually fixed my system.

      Peace Out.
