    How to Get New KDE?

    Hi,

    I'm a real newbe! So please forgive me if I ask things that are very well known to you!

    I installed Kubuntu 6.06 yesterday from a cd, but the KDE is something like 2.1?? So I really want to upgrade to KDE 3.5.4. I looked in the menu, also the system menu, but couldn't find a way to do it.

    My request is: would someone be so kind to explain in very simple steps how I could upgrade to KDE 3.5.4? If it is possible, please describe the menu way, and not the console way. But if it can't be done that menu way, please show me in simple steps how to do it in the console way.

    I would be very grateful if someone takes the effort to help me!

    Paul

    Sure Paul:

    Open Adept Menu->System. Once Adept is open:
    • Adept->Manage Repositories
    • In the New Repository Box (bottom), copy this:
      Code:
      deb [url]http://kubuntu.org/packages/kde-latest[/url] dapper main
      This will enable the latest kde packages each time they are updated in Kubuntu.
    • Click Add
    • Click Apply
    • Back to the Main Menu. Do Adept -> Fetch Updates
    • Now: Safe Upgrade and then Apply changes

    That's all. You may get some warnings due to package siganture. You may ignore that. Or to be very clean, follow the steps here:

    http://kubuntu.org/announcements/kde-354.php

    There are other repositories you may want to enable in Adept, search in the forums or just bug me

    Cheers!

      Re: How to Get New KDE?

      I have just followed your suggestion on how to update kde. What I have done is substitute
      "deb http://kubuntu.org/packages/kde-353 dapper main" as I have read that 354 has some bugs in it.
      My question is when I go to Adept and look in the file it shows "kde" not installed. Is this the one I want to install.?
      What I have is Candidate Version: 5.45ubuntu1
      Installed Version: n/a
      Yet kde is running my system, at this moment, is this the 5.45 update, and if so why did I get this instead of the 5.43?
      Also you say, "Now: Safe Upgrade and then Apply changes" do I do this after selecting "Request Install" on the above mentioned kde, or am I missing something here.?
      I would appreciate your time in explaining this to me.

      Ok I just checked my version, should have done that first, I am running 3.53 now. So that is answered.
      If you wouldn't mind still explaining to me the file I should be updating or installing under "Adept"and also your line;
      "Now: Safe Upgrade and then Apply changes".

      Many Thanks.
      Peter
