    Samba setup help

    Greetings,

I installed Kubuntu 12.04 64 and would liek to share one of my folders, my printers and have access to the Mac OS and Windows 7 machines at home without requesting guests to login.

I managed to connect to the Mac through an internet cable connection with a fixed IP at both ends but I have not been able to share or to connect to other computers on the wireless network.

I installed Samba and Gadmin-Samba. the later works but does not allow me to make chages and the Samba application will not start.

    Thanks,

    Michel

Let me preface this with the fact that I don't use SAMBA, but you could allows try installing webmin to handle the configuration and starting/stopping of SAMBA services.

    To install:
    http://www.webmin.com/deb.html

    To configure SAMBA:
    http://www.webmin.com/samba-howto.html
(this section also breifly touches on how to restart the service which would similar to starting and stopping it as well)
    Nowadays I'm mostly Mac, but...

I have always used webmin to setup samba, but I also had access to the sharing through system settings in Mepis. At any rate I was trying to avaoid installing software that is not part of the Kubuntu repositories but i guess I will have to.

For reference I believe this link is very useful: http://www.kelvinwong.ca/2012/04/29/...ntu-12-04-lts/ The install will fail because of dependency issues. Users should run the following comand to fix the dependency issue and continue with the webmin install sudo apt-get -f install

      Thanks,

      Michel
