Boot menu does NOT include an option to load in "Safe Mode"

    Kubuntu 12.10

I need to open my computer in "safe mode" to repair a problem in Firefox browser. When I open pressing F8, the boot menu appears, however it is a menu on a blue background with only the disk drives as option for booting. There are no options for "safe mode". Am I attempting to enter the correct boot menu? Thanks!

Problem resolved by reinstall. I have had too many problems to deal with and decided it was time for a fresh install. Thanks to all.

What kind of computer is it? Be as specific as possible: manufacturer, full model number, motherboard details if you have them. Also, can you snap a photo with your cell cam and post it?

I think you might be booting into a UEFI boot manager.

The specs for that board don't mention UEFI. When was it made -- sometime in 2008/9, perhaps?

It will be difficult to help you more without being able to see the same thing you see. Please try to post a photo.

If you're referring to my reply to your question from January of this year, I can't think of any other advice. I don't use Firefox regularly.

Actually, the post I referred to was when I was searching the problem recently and the post referred to was dated 2007. My regular 12.10 Kubuntu OS works great. The Firefox problem is just that, a firefox problem. I don't think it has anything to with the OS. I did go to Firefox and was unable to get a fix for the issue from the forum or Faq's. Additionally I found technical support site by telephone. They ran me through their procedure, however I was unable to link to certain sites they use to repair problems. I do not know the reason. In any event their last bit of advice involved sending me to a Microsoft support site. Microsoft pretty much just laughed at the idea of helping a Linux user. Strange thing is that I questioned the Firefox agent about the wisdom of contacting Microsoft because I use Kubuntu a Linux system, yet he insisted.

I have been using Firefox for multimedia services, which outperform Konqueror. I ordinarily prefer for all other Internet needs. Old and living alone, I need my access to Internet video. It is my voice in the room. I realize this is not very important for most users, but very important to me. The loss of the menu has made using Firefox difficult. Lots of lost time accessing the things I need without bookmarks etc. Thanks for trying. Your previous help worked for the older versions of Kubuntu but not the current. Thanks friend.

do you have your box set to auto boot (no grub screen displaying before boot) if so hold down the shift key when you start the box (not F 8 ) to display the grub boot screen .

Shabakthanai, you replied to a thread back from January. Since I suspect you intended to reply to this thread instead, I moved your reply here.

You shouldn't have to boot into any kind of "safe mode" to fix a Firefox problem. I presume the Firefox problem in question is the menu bar issue, as you asked about earlier today? If so, then let's continue helping you in that thread, not this thread or the one from January. Please check your latest thread, as there a couple posts awaiting your attention.

Why do you believe that you need to boot your computer into a "safe mode"?

It's worth noting here that Firefox's safe mode and an operating system's safe mode are two very different things. Personally, I wish Mozilla had called it "clean mode" or something, just to avoid confusion.

How do I open Firefox in "safe mode/clean mode"?

Additionally, I would like to be able to open my computer with minimal drivers installed or use the repair function when needed. They are not included in my boot menu. Thanks!

In Firefox's help menu, there should be an option to Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
