my stable Kubuntu restarted (hardware caused) as I was installing new packages, now when I log in it logs me out right after, I can only work through console. Tried apt-get update and upgrade, but didnt solve the problem, any ideas? Any recovery/safe mode alternative, cuz I can't choose it when booting.

Try creating a new user and see if you can log in with them... if you can its a problem with the other users config files. -

changing username doesnt help, all packages are up to date, it seems the problem might be in kde, but im not sure, basically as I log in a window pops out for an instant then it logs me outComment

solved after reinstalling both gui and kde, thanks 4 supportComment

You might want to also make sure kubuntu-desktop is installed.Comment
