    Access to Root folders

    Hi,
    I would like to install some different sounds for system and software actions. The text files tells me that I shall copy the wav-files into the folder "/usr/share/sounds". But access to write in this folder is not granted for me. How can I change the administration rights that I will have access to Root-folders?
    Regards, Sigurd

      Root Actions Servicemenu is a must. One of the first things installed after a fresh/new Kubuntu installation.
      Windows no longer obstructs my view.
      Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

        Hi,
        I installed the Root Actions Servicemenu. Perhaps I did something wrong. But I still could not copy the wav-files into the sounds folder. So, I decided to uninstall the Root Actions Servicemenu. That was a big mistake! When I started my computer this morning I got the following message: "Warning: Cannot open ConsoleKit session: Unable to open session: Failed to execute program /usr/lib/dbus-1.0/dbus-daemon-launch-helper: success." And many parts of the OS did not work. WLAN was one of them. So I could not ask for help.
        The only way for ma was to install kubuntu again. At my last installation I had learned to install kubuntu manually. I created three partitions: one for kubuntu and the software as boot partition, one as linux swap partition and the third for my files as /home partition. That was the best I have ever done since I use kubuntu. Every personal setting was back after installation of kubuntu and the other software. After 2 hours everything was back to usual. I would like to recommend that kubuntu should be installed this way as default. And I keep my sound files on my third partition. They are still there and kubuntu is using them immediately after installation.
        Regards, Sigurd

            When right clicking on a folder I presume? The alternative is to run
            Code:
            kdesudo dolphin

              Alt+F2: type->kdesudo dolphin<enter>
              Barely even touches a terminal

              There is also a reason linux still has a (powerful) command line and you shouldn't be afraid by launching applications this way.

              I always find it far quicker to use the terminal then to fuss with gui programs most of the time.

                The most common cause for the menu not working after installation, is not having ruby installed. The menu itself doesn't need ruby, but dolphin's automatic installer needs ruby to run the install script which ensures the parts of the menu are correctly installed. Unfortunately, ruby is only a "suggested" dependency for dolphin in kubuntu, so it's not installed by default.

                That's very strange, the uninstaller shouldn't in any way touch consolekit/dbus or their configuration. Are you sure the problem was caused by the removal of the menu (as the author, I'd greatly appreciate any details you can provide)
