Can't get broadcom to work, Dell 1501

Hello I'm new to Kubuntu and Linux in general. I'm assembling a laptop for my mother and had Ubunutu on it but it was so so slow. Kubununtu is much faster. Under additionall drivers it shows broadcom activated but no wifi? The tab is grayed out! I have googled everywhere. What do I do? What do I click on? This is so confusing and I don't want to have to go back to Windowz just because of this. I have the bw cutter thing but I clicked on all the files and they just pop up a bunch of words. Please help!!!!!
