Hi all. I did a clean install of KUBUNTU 11.10. It was running OK. The muon updaters were chashing but I fixed that with updates. Everything was working pretty good except video was slow. I have the HIS 4670 PCIe 1GB DDR3 IceQ video card (its a ATI/AMD chipset). I went to the additional drivers utility. it found:
"ATI/AMD proprietory FGLRX, graphics driver" and
"ATI/AMD proprietory FGLRX, graphics driver ("Post Release)"
I choose to do one at a time starting with "ATI/AMD proprietory FGLRX, graphics driver" . It stated that download and install were complete and I had to restart system to activate drivers. After reboot the system hangs at the blue "KUBUNTU" screen with the flashing dots (dots stop flashing and HD light stops flickering)
. It does not get to the KDE splash screen.
I am only able to get to system at GRUB 'Drop to root' or What I am using now. What I am using now is Boot into "previous 3.00.0x generic (recovery mode)" In this mode my system fully boots up
. I also have installed a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1600 which KUBUNTU sees.
I've been googling and trolling various forums for two days looking for help. I need step by step guidence/help. ATI /AMD has downloads for linux drivers that I put on my usb flash stick. But I'm am confused about wich one to use, where to unzip them and how to install them. I'm not even sure if I need them. This is my first attempt at a multimedia machine/MythTV so the video is important. I can't afford to get another card (NVidia). I am comfortable using shell commands (used them to fix muon).
