    Thunderbird question

    Hi,

I have Kubuntu 10.4 installed and I also have Thunderbird 3.1.20 installed. It's the latest version that I see listed in the repositories that I have configured. I have gotten a notice from Thunderbird saying that my version is obsolete and it will only be support for about 2 more weeks. I do I need to do to get a newer version of Thunderbird?

    Thank you

May I ask why you're using a version of Kubuntu that's two years old?

      @ SteveRiley Kubuntu... LTS?

How about trying Ubuntuzilla. It is a script which installs the latest Firefox, Thunderbird and Seamonkey. http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawik...itle=Main_Page

        Hi Steve...

Why not? It's worked very well on my system, both Ubuntu and Kubuntu.

Over time, I've noticed that fewer and fewer packages are being compiled for Lucid. Since Kubuntu isn't cursed with Unity, it seems less compelling to avoid updating to a more current release.

Steve, I think that is just standard ubuntu, a older release is left to die and more is done for the newer release. This moves people to newer releases. IMHO its worse when its a LTS, because they are around longer. But even going back to Dapper it was the same, and I stayed with Dapper for over a year and a half. I did it because of stability, some people llike things that just work, and after the first 6 months of a LTS, at least for Ubuntu, they are rock solid most of the time.

Isn't 10.4 the latest LST version right now? I know that 12.4 is LST but it's still beta as far as I know. I do have 12.4 beta 2 version installed on Virtual Box. Can I upgrade directly from 10.4 LST to 12.4 LST? That would probably solve my Thunderbird problem.

              Thanks for your help.

You can upgrade today if you wish. 12.04 has been rock-solid for me in daily use.

One question though, how old is your hardware?

That means that after two weeks, there will be no more support for it (ie patches, bug fixes, etc.). It will still continue to work for you. If there are any security vulnerabilities found, they won't be patched, either. However, if they are found, you can always upgrade to a more current version.

I still use a 3 year old version of Windows. It's called Windows 7.

I want like to get a newer version of Thunderbird but I don't see a newer version in the repos and I don't understand the directions on the Thunderbird website. I thought I followed the directions but it didn't install. Can someone please walk me those directions.? I guess I will upgrade to 12.4 when the official release is available so I probably don't have to upgrade my Thunderbird now. 12.04 is due to be released just a few days after my version of Thunderbird will be declare obsolete. My laptop is about 5 years old. Thank you for the upgrade information Dequire.
