cant install sml new jersey

I am trying to install smlnj and i get this Error message:

Firs the obvious - you talk about smlnj but your command refers to smlng.

It's not in the repositories that I have access to. Who provides this app? Is there a web site?

Do you get any results from either of the following?

apt-cache search smln
aptitude search smln

SecretCode i did with smlnj instead of smlng and still doesn't work, also i executed those 2 command you wrote and they run without showing anything.

I went to the link and downloaded the smlnj_110.72-1_amd64.deb package
but when i tried to install it
i got this

Hi elicoh...

I hope we don't run into a dependency hole but here is the package that SMLNJ says it needs. Install the 64 bit version. :-)

dpkg -i doesn't download dependencies - you would need to get that smlnj-runtime and install it first. ... It too might have other dependencies!

I'm worried that the package site does not list it for Oneiric. Are you sure it's still supported?

sudo apt-get --download-only install package-name

DEBs, including dependencies, will land in /var/cache/apt/archives.

+1 for the suggestion - --download-only is v useful

-1 for building your nested quotes manually and getting the nesting wrong
