kernel panic error while installing kubuntu

    Hi all,

I want to install Kubuntu 6.06 to my system but I took the error: " Kernel panic- not syncing: Attempted to kill init". How can I fix this error? Are there any body had this error before and fixed it?

I searched for this error in google and found that I should type "noapic nolapic" in kernel prompt but I don't know how. I use lilo and I think I may change some parameters in the lilo.conf file.

I am waiting for your help. Thanks..

I am trying to install it on my Desktop with 512mb RAM. I have AMD 64 bit processor. The size of hard drive is 40gb, the size of partititon for linux is 10gb.

Which CD have you used? Have you chosen the 64bit or the 32bit version?

Did you use the Desktop CD or the Alternative CD? If you used the Desktop CD did it work as a liveCD?

Did you check the Checksum of the Disk? Have you been able to use any other liveCDs on your machine?

You may be looking at a hardware conflict - where a piece or pieces of hardware are causing a problem.

Re: kernel panic error while installing kubuntu

I solved this problem in this way: When the install option is selected inthe installation menu I pressed F6 and added "acpi=off noapic nolapic" to the boot options. Then the live CD worked fine.

                Thanks everyone..
