    Modem - Internal or External

I have been looking at modems, specifically the USR 5610c pci fax modem. Has anyone had any experience with one? Anyone have any recommendations or suggestions for either internal or external modems?
I currently have a winmodem and have spent hours wasting time trying to get it recognized and yes, I did get the driver for it from the Linuxant site, Conexant site?

I haven't used a modem in years, but when I did I recall that US Robotics products always worked with *nix. But, also as I recall, those were external modems...I can't recall having an internal one. (My memory's not what it once was, however, so I could be wrong.)

      Hi...

      Welcome to the forums

DYK was "right on the nose" with her comment regarding U.S. Robotics. They're brand was well noted, I believe, among Linux users during those years because their hardware modems, to borrow the cliche, "just worked."

If you have a serial port, then I would recommend the external modem here. If not, then you can purchase an internal modem with a Conexant chipset that is supported by Linuxant drivers. Here is an example.

Most internal and USB modems are winmodems and usually not compatible with Linux.
