How to: fix: Amarok says phonon backend can't play MP3 in a little popup

Amarok does everything with the stream(mp3, pls) like display lyrics, cover art, wikipedia article, and "looks" like it is playing the mp3 but doesn't.

There is a popup that says something to the effect of; Phonon says that the backend cannot play an MP3 you should check the configuration. However, the popup goes away VERY fast and is small, but that is basically what it says.

One should check to see if either, or both, of the following are installed. Check in synaptic or MUON or whatever if you can't do it from CLI and install the required item(s). A restart is NOT necessary for the system, but Amarok should be closed during the install of the item(s).

The Xine backend for Phonon has been deprecated. Amarok can play MP3 files through Phonon/GStreamer when you install the gstreamer0.10-fluendo-mp3 package, which you will receive if you install the meta-package kubuntu-restricted-addons.

Hm, strange. Do you have the fluendo-mp3 package installed?
