      Hi,
I also have an error when starting Muon:

Executable: muon-installer PID: 1682 Signal: Segmentation fault (11)

This started tohappen after an unsuccessful installation.
      Any ideas?

          Is this a fresh install?

My stable systems (Kubuntu installed a while ago) I'm having no problems with Muon.

But I installed Kubuntu on my kids linux box Thursday, and after getting all the updates, I'm having the same behavior (Muon crashing).

It would be helpful to add the Kubuntu/KDE/Muon versions

If you mean an unsuccessful installation of Kubuntu, then start fresh and reinstall and ensure that it goes to completion "without error". You cannot expect anything to work properly if the operating system didn't get installed correctly.

                Something to try

The developer, Jonathan Thomas is blogging here: http://jontheechidna.wordpress.com/

The experimental development packages (beta at the moment) are available: https://launchpad.net/~echidnaman/+a...t-experimental

If the Oneiric release version Muon is crashing, you could try with the development version.

                Upgrade example

                1) adding the ppa, command line:
                Code:
                sudo add-apt-repository ppa:echidnaman/qapt-experimental
                Code:
                [sudo] password for oneline:
You are about to add the following PPA to your system:
                 QApt Experimental
A place for packages for prerelease versions of QApt/Muon
                 More info: [url]https://launchpad.net/~echidnaman/+archive/qapt-experimental[/url]
Press [ENTER] to continue or ctrl-c to cancel adding it

                Executing: gpg --ignore-time-conflict --no-options --no-default-keyring --secret-keyring /tmp/tmp.23VqZHEPzk --trustdb-name /etc/apt/trustdb.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg --primary-keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg --keyserver hkp://keyserver.ubuntu.com:80/ --recv 25D38C4E8FB595D28F2F089611EC3F8C8067AE7D
gpg: requesting key 8067AE7D from hkp server keyserver.ubuntu.com
gpg: key 8067AE7D: public key "Launchpad PPA for Jonathan Thomas" imported
                gpg: Total number processed: 1
                gpg: imported: 1 (RSA: 1)

                2) Updating the package database:
                Code:
                sudo apt-get update
                3) Checking the upgradeable packages:
                Code:
                /usr/lib/update-notifier/apt-check --human-readable
                Code:
                11 packages can be updated.
                0 updates are security updates.
                4) Upgrading
                Code:
                sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
                Code:
                Reading package lists...
                Building dependency tree...
                Reading state information...
The following packages will be upgraded:
                 gstreamer0.10-qapt kde-thumbnailer-deb libmuonprivate1 libqapt-runtime
                 libqapt1 muon muon-installer muon-notifier muon-updater qapt-batch
                 qapt-deb-installer
11 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
                5) Testing

                Code:
                :~$ muon-installer -v
                Qt: 4.7.4
                KDE Development Platform: 4.7.4 (4.7.4)
Muon Software Center: 1.2.80 "Daring Dalek"
                Code:
                :~$ muon -v
                Qt: 4.7.4
                KDE Development Platform: 4.7.4 (4.7.4)
Muon Package Manager: 1.2.80 "Daring Dalek"
Both Muons are working at here.

                Downgrade example

The Muon upgrade is from a PPA, so there is a handy tool:

                Code:
                :~$ apt-cache show ppa-purge

Description: disables a PPA and reverts to official packages
This program disables a PPA from your Software Sources and reverts your
system back to the official Ubuntu packages. You can use this to return your
system to normal after testing a new version from a PPA.
                Homepage: [url]https://launchpad.net/ppa-purge[/url]
It can be installed with the command:
                Code:
                sudo apt-get install ppa-purge
                Manual:
                Code:
                :~$ man ppa-purge
                Code:
                NAME

                SYNOPSIS

                DESCRIPTION

You have to run it using root privileges because of the package manager.

The Muons are back to the Oneiric release version - and are working at here.

Re: Muon Software Manager will not open.

                    HI
                    For possibly other situations.

Running the alpha of Precise Rekonq wanted to install the flash driver, but it couldn't.

When i tried to install something from Muon it said there was another instance of a package manager running. And that happened after restarts.

After a while I did dpkg-a in terminal, it showed the installer for flash trying to run, asked if I wanted to install flash, I said so and it installed and did a LOT of dpkging! and then Muon ran ok.

I might have looked in processes, but didn't think about it.

However, this is the beta of Precise so one expects stuff like this, but, it might be an idea for people that the above fix does not work for to check in processes and see what is going on.
