    Using a print server

Hello. I have a netgear printserver and a canon i560. To use the printserver in windows I had to identify it as a canon i550. I checked at linuxprinting.org and it said to use the canon bjc8200 driver for the i550. I have tried using the kubuntu add printer gui and the http://localhost:631/admin. I choose add network printer and enter the URI. But when I choose the bjc 8200 driver nothing happens. When I choose the bjc-8200 driver, it tells me the driver is unavailable or I don't have permission. I have tried entering my password, but cups won't take it. I know the process is finding the printer otherwise I would not be able to choose a driver. But that looks like my problem - I can't get the driver to load. (I even tried using the kubuntu add printer gui in admin mode (at the bottom) but it didn't help. Any ideas? Thanks.

    Re: Using a print server

Well, I tried using the "Linux Cookbook" but it did not have any recipes for print servers. So I did a lot of research and finally came accross this

    http://www.cups.org/articles.php?L317

It worked - almost perfectly. (When I tried to find my firmware version, I realized I have forgotten the password for the device. At some point I will need to hit the reset button and go through this again. Anyway I just pretend I have the correct firmware.) I couldn't configure the printer from http://localhost:631/admin so I ended up using the printer setup tool provided in system settings. I works! Now I have to get it set up with ubuntu on my other machine.

Thanks to everyone who read this.
