    Re: New to KUbuntu

Its not the same. IPv6 is basic functionality. Activity is a organizational feature. If its not neccessary, there should be a way to disable it without doing non-regular changes to system. Or at least thats the way KDE was supposed to be (as far as i learned from reviews, its about being customizing everything). Thats the main reason i chose KDE after Gnome 3 release . I was used to do whatever i wanted, thats why not being able to delete one small patethic button on the desktop makes me so angry. Never before was i forced to let something go because i was unable to change it on my system. Its mostly personal. So good, bad or excelent, activity is just not made in a "i want to have everything the way i want it to be" spirit.

On acount of what to do after system installation. Well maybe it is a little late since u already switched the system but i always backup .bash_aliases, custom scripts and mailclient database(my university account only has 10 MB space alowed so i delete messages from it after downloading them to pc) from old system. I keep home as separate partition and just copy everything i need to home of current system. Then just format and redistribute space from old home.

      Re: New to KUbuntu

I'd like to push my opinion in here if I may... (good luck stopping me - just ask my wife! )

I think Kubuntu, like many major distros will always have the "fingerprint" of it developers on it. In other words - we're not the ones coding, so we have little say about what direction it takes. Not that the devs. don't listen at all, just that it's their choice to act or not on any opinion about what's best for Kubuntu (or KDE for that matter). Especially since most of them are unpaid.

There are plenty of distros out there that will allow you more control, all the way down to Linux-From-Scratch. We are all free to have our likes and disikes (and I agree with most of the complaints in this thread) but we aren't paying for support, aren't doing the work, and therefore have no right to be angry (IMO). Rather, we all have the right to look elsewhere. I don't run Kubuntu on all my machines and occasionally venture into other distros for this machine as well.

I can state I have never been more pleased with a distro than I have been with Kubuntu (daily since 9.04). That doesn't mean it perfect but News for The World - no one has the same idea of what is in fact perfect.

In the interest of full disclosure: The evil axis of Akonadi, Nepomuk, Strigi really piss me off.

I booted my laptop at 11:36 PST today. It is now 16:05 and my .xsession-errors file is 2.2 MB! Why do I need to be told...

        Code:
"/usr/bin/kactivitymanagerd(2174)" Soprano: "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown - The name org.kde.nepomuk.services.nepomukstorage was not provided by any .service files"
...over an dover an dover an dover again? I've seen various reports on the 'tubes about this, including some KDE bugs, but no apparent resolution. Nepomuk is supposedly completely disabled...

Thanks for pointing that out; I had no idea of the existence of those plugins, and just took the opportunity to deselect all the ones that I have no use for.
