    Re: screen will not roatate

I don't seem to be able to do as you direct. I guess I need to ask, 'who am I?' I am able to shut down the Graphical User Interface by the command 'Ctrl-Alt-F1' as you lead. Then I am presented with basic command page that asks for my login. Obviously to all, for this machine, I use 'GranPaSmurf'. Then 'Password' appears and I enter the password that makes everything else work on this machine, and I am told 'login incorrect'. ("Is not!," I shout, over and over, "Is NOT!," but the computer doesn't listen to me any better than my kids or grandkids)
In 'User Management/Users & Groups' I don't see anything I wish to mess with just yet.
    So.
    Who Am I?

      Re: screen will not roatate

      Well now I've done it!
I actually did make a couple of changes...to the login screen settings. NOW I can't get past the login screen! Sheesh, slap-head moments all day!
So, is there an 'Admin' login that can get me past the login screen? I could do this in Win 7...

Uh oh -- what were these "couple of changes"?

From the KDM greeter, you should be able to choose "console login", and user your user name and password there, to get to the tty console. But, in the case of changing X configuration, you still need to run
        Code:
        sudo service kdm stop
        before you run

        Code:
        sudo nvidia-xconfig

          Re: screen will not roatate

the Kubuntu has been automatically logging me on, without asking for password.

Whatthought I was doing was setting the login screen to require user and password. More than that, I don't recall.

Yes, I can get to the 'console login' tty1. This is where I have been before when following directions of your previous post, and the usual login is rejected.

            Re: screen will not roatate

Thanks to all; I appreciate your help!
            This issue is solved.
Since this was a new install on a 'training computer', with no data and minimal personalization, I did a re-install from my Kubuntu 11.10 install disk. I believe the original install was corrupted.
With the new install of Kubuntu 11.10 version, the screen options are where they are expected to be (yes, I did a RIGHT turn), and I am now sure of my log in and password.
Again, thanks. Your guidance helped me learn a lot about navigating Kubuntu, especially the Systems Settings.
