live peer-to-peer chat with audio and video?

Dreaming, I know, but I'm wondering if anyone has it working:

Live audio & video chat, peer-to-peer, no accounts, logins, servers, etc.
Gnu freetalk is (maybe) in the future, but not now.

I'm thinking maybe it could be done with vlc, using audio and video streaming. Might not be the easiest thing to set up, but on the other hand, would work with linux, windows, mac, etc. Or some way of setting up a live webcam with audio feed, that could be accessed via browser?

LOL well I think that should be possible with VLC but I have NOT bothered to try to set it up ore research it .

I'm quite happy to just use Gmail's vid chat to talk with and see the wife when I'm out of town
