Just downloaded Ubuntu but Unity is meh...?

I have been a long time windows person but just built a computer and dont have an OS handy. Since I already have Ubuntu... is there a way I can just get the kubuntu appearance or do I have to do an install of Kubuntu? I have wine and civ5 running on Ubuntu.. I assume wine is compatible with kubuntu as well? Will the installation be similar?(this is all so new to me!!)

    Thanks!

You can download and re-install Kubuntu if you want to have a "pure" KDE environment. However, you can also install kubuntu-desktop right into your Ubuntu install and then select KDE Desktop when you log in.

      Basics

The Ubuntu is using the Unity /1/ ( or Gnome /2/) desktop and is build with the GTK /3/toolkit.
The Kubuntu is using the KDE /4/ desktop and is build with the Qt /5/ toolkit.

      Desktops

Desktops or derivatives /6/ can be installed with the metapackages /7/. The Kubuntu has two metapackages:
      • kubuntu-desktop
      • kubuntu-full

      kubuntu-desktop
This package depends on all of the packages in the Kubuntu desktop system.
Installing this package will include the default Kubuntu Plasma Desktop or
      Netbook installation.
      kubuntu-full
This package depends on all of the packages in the Kubuntu DVD for a very
complete system. Installing this package will include much more than the
default Kubuntu Plasma Desktop or Netbook installation.

Before installing a desktop it is good to think the removal of the desktop /8/
