[Solved] Cannot delete files from USB drive

    Hello Kubuntu Forums,

    Kindly help.

Everytime I "Move to trash" a file from a removable disk or USB drive, a message appears saying...

"The trash has reached its maximum size! Cleanup the trash manually."

A few times I did emptied the Trash, but the same error message pops up each time I remove a file from my USB drive. I doubt if it was mounted as Read Only because I can save and move files into it.

    Any suggestion to fix this?

    Regards,
    Lex

go to Dolphins settings>trash and adjust the max size.

or highlight files to delete and hold down the shift key wile pressing delete and the trash will be bypassed and the files permanently deleted .

Re: Cannot delete unwanted backup files from USB drive

I think the application "Keep" is the culprit.

I set it to backup to a named USB drive but my USB drives usually mount as a drive number, {disk, disk-1, disk-2, disk-3...] and they don't always coordinate with drives that were formerly mounted.

Therefore the directory kept reappearing on EVERY mounted removable media. There were corrupted files, etc. I kept deleting them and even tried changing the permissions of the saved directory.

I killed the Keep daemon and deleted the backup directory setting but I can't delete the files/directory from one USB flashdrive, even as root. I even tried on a windows box.

        Any clue

I found a way, in my instance.

'Twas not using SUDO nor "as root".

Despite root's not being able to change file/folder attributes nor delete within Dolphin nor Konqueror, I used the "Find" utility and could right click on files and folders to delete them.

          Good enough for now. 8)
