I just upgraded to kubuntu 11.10 and I've been trying to get my usb hdd to work. The computer does not even recognize when I plug it in, and if I plug it into a windoze machine it works.
Let's check a few things. Start without the drive plugged in.
First, see the triangle on the system tray:
Click it. A menu will pop up:
Do you see the Device Notifier? Normally, when you plug in a drive, the Device Notifier detects the drive and raises a menu providing a list of activities you can perform, like this:
If you aren't seeing any of that, then let's check whether your drive is detected another way. Open a Konsole window, enter the following three commands, and report back what you see:
1) plug your usb hdd in
2) look what the dmesg is telling
Without knowing anything else than you have a "kubuntu 11.10" and a "usb hdd".
Do you have the USB3 ?
Oneiric current, USB 3 capable External Box with a 3.5 sata disk inside doesn't work when attached to USB 3 port, works perfect on USB 2 port. AsRock 880GMH/USB3 motherboard: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu...uestion/170351
