Ubuntu problems on update....:/(solved)

Hey guys Im having some problems when running sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade....

getting this at the end of the lines.

ANy help plz tried already to make a buckup of the source.list and do apt-get update doing a new one....getting the same error at the end...might ubuntu tweak have something with this

stop and read the error closely.. :P

W: Duplicate sources.list entry http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric/main amd64 Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_oneiric_main_binar y-amd64_Packages)

note the error, "duplicate sources.list entry <entry>" you have duplicates entered in that file. looks like you have the the same two in there a few times.

Please show us the output of

cat /etc/apt/sources.list

I'm guessing duplicates like this...

deb http://blah/blah/ repository main restricted universe multiverse

and

deb http://blah/blah/ repository main
deb http://blah/blah/ repository restricted
deb http://blah/blah/ repository universe
deb http://blah/blah/ repository multiverse

cat /etc/apt/sources.list

I'm guessing duplicates like this...

Yeah I noticed they were duplicates...tried to eliminate all of them by doing a sudo rm -r /var/lib/apt/lists and then a sudo apt-get update.....getting same old again.

how should I do that?? is that a single file?? or is it just on 1 file...?gonna look anyway, leave respones in case I dont find out. Thanks, didnt thought of what u marked me, I think those lines are there when I broke in the edit sources and removed the independent and canonical sources and added them again...lol whatever.

You showed us the contents of the /etc/apt/sources.list file. Edit it as root and remove (or just comment them with a # at the beginning of the line) those lines I indicated. Save and close the file and then run:

sudo apt-get update

Ok done that but why should I delete:

deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric-security main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu oneiric main

The main list has 4 doubles but I have to leave at least 1 right?? and the security universe multiverse has no dubles so I shouldn't delete it right? maybe you mistaken that...not sure...:? Thanks anyways ^^
