[SOLVED] Lexmark E260d Driver for Kubuntu?

Has anyone here successfully installed a printer driver for this? If so:

    1) Where did you find the driver? Lexmark offers a number of drivers on their site but one that works with 64-bit Kubuntu is not mentioned by name and there is no way to judge whether any of the others might even be compatible.

    2) If there is such a beast, how did you install it?

    3) Did you survive the attempt?

If anyone here has actually done this for a Lexmark E260d, I'd sure like to hear from you.

    Blessings!
    Tex

Note: I found a HOWTO on the Ubuntu forums but, after scratching my head for twenty minutes pondering all those myriad mystical incantations, I fear it would be far easier to learn 8008 assembly language first, write a compiler for Object-Oriented COBOL in that (Bog forbid), then code the driver in that - but not before sacrificing a pail of chokko entrails on my keyboard during the next Spring Equinox. (I don't mean to whinge, but try getting into Stonehenge at that time of year. It's worse than Black Friday)

    Try this,

With your printer connected and turned on.

Open a browser (Firefox or Rekonq will do) and got to http://localhost:631/admin - should ask you for your user/pass for your system.

    Choose "Add Printer"

Go through a few steps and then there should be a list of manufacturers, choose Lexmark and you'll see your printer model in the list.

"Add printer" and all should work.

Finally got it to work. Many thanks!

At first, NoScript (a Firefox security plugin) appeared to object to this link. Turns out the USB cable was not fully seated at the printer end. Once that was fixed the notification no longer showed up and the printer works fine.

Just curious, Slush, but why would one use a link to install a printer? I've never seen anything like this before. Where does that link go and what does it do?

      Thanks and take care,

The 'link' points to localhost on your PC and port 631 is where CUPS (Common Unix Printing System) is accessed from.
