    Different memory read outs

    Hi, I'm fairly new to Linux and have been recently using Ubuntu 11.04 for a few months and switched to Kubuntu 11.10 and so far I'm liking this interface better. I have a couple of questions. The System Monitor and Top read out in Terminal window show memory usage different, why is that and which is the correct one? My system is running smoothly, I even ran virtualbox with a dvd playing and does not slow down, so why does the terminal read out say I have less than 200MB memory free out of 3GB? I would attach a picture but if I do the post doesn't post.

      I'm not sure what the system monitor is trying to show down there at the bottom, but that utility is not really supposed to be an authoritative source of total memory utilization. I would rely on what top is showing. Here is some useful information on the topic:
