Resolved reset defualts for 'fullscreen' and 'volume on' xine media player

Kubuntu Natty, KDE 4.6.2, Xine 0.99.6-1

I purchased a collector's edition of Stargate SG-1. To preserve the collectable quality of the original dvd's, I put them on my HDD. A small quantity of the dvd's play in another language when using the vlc media player. When I play the episodes that play in an other language on the xine media player the episodes play in the correct language.

I use the vlc player, because it opens and plays the episodes with sound active and in 'fullscreen' mode.

Each time I open an episode using the xine player, it opens in the minimized view with the sound off. I am able to select 'fullscreen' and engage the 'sound', but I have to do it each time I open an episode. While I change these settings, I miss part of the program.

I have tried to get information, ie. xine forums, google, etc. without success. I would prefer to use xine as a default player, because xine seems to play the episodes properly, by that I mean the audio track seems to be correct all the time, however I use vlc player, because it defaults to 'fullscreen' and the sound begins 'on' as default.

How do I change the default settings for xine, so that both 'fullscreen' and 'sound on' are active when I open a movie?

If this isn't the proper forum for help with this problem, please advise the correct forum or info source. Thanks!

Re: reset defualts for 'fullscreen' and 'volume on' xine media player

I created this post. In the process, I have found that Xine is to be excluded from future Kubuntu support. As a result, I have decided to remove Xine from my OS and seek other choices.

My reason for wanting to continue with Xine is as follows:

VLC is my default media player. Nonetheless, when I play from my Stargate SG1 collection, a few of the episodes play either another language, or a voice over description of the content of the episode. Whenever that happens, I open those episodes using Xine and they play as intended. The screen minimized and sound default mute or off had to be reset each time I played a video, so VLC remained my default media player.

This post was an attempt to learn how to configure Xine to become my default media player. When I found that it was a discontinued package, I no longer wanted or needed the information. GStreamer is the Kubuntu back-end.

I hope this is useful information for anyone with a similar issue. Thanks to the experts who have attempted to help in solving this problem. You are most appreciated.
