I'm new to *buntu, been using Mepis for a lot of years.
My system is built around an older mainboard - not great, but it's what I have. The board has an Intel 82865G video controller onboard and an Nvidia GeForce 8400 card in a PCI slot (no AGP or PCIe on this board). The Intel controller is disabled in bios and generally has no monitor connected. The system is running 32 bit Kubuntu 11.04 upgraded to 11.10 on a P4 processor. The issue existed before the upgrade and also existed in Mint. It did not exist in Mepis.
After grub, the screen goes completely blank until X initializes to the KDE splash. Also I get a completely blank screen rather than a terminal when I do a CTRL-ALT-F1. If I connect a monitor to the Intel card, guess what I see? Yup. Boot screen and terminal screen.
This is not a big deal - mostly a cosmetic annoyance, but I'd like to fix it if possible. Any thoughts?
