FIXED: Internet Access (Wired) Gone after unplugging "Sleeping" computer

During a lightning storm I foolishly unplugged my computer (running Kubuntu 10.04) while it was in "sleep" mode. Upon restarting the next day I am unable to connect to the internet with my ethernet connection. It's not a hardware problem, because the same computer when running Windows 7 has no problem accessing the net.

How can I fix this without reaching for the installation disk?
