GParted wants an administrative password to run. I don't have an administrative password, just a regular one. What do I have to do to run this program?

The password/user you created during the install is the Admin user and password -

The password/user that I created during install is the same one that I entered when prompted to run GParted, but it did not work. It did not prompt for a username, just a password. I always have trouble with passwords, which is why I always use the same one for everything. This situation is typical.Comment

The one and only password in your Kubuntu system is the one you entered (twice) when you installed it. That's the one gparted and any other package that needs to be run in root mode will need.Originally posted by rwhubertComment

It's been a while since I've used gparted, but try starting it with 'kdesudo gparted' and see whether your password works in kdesudo dialog.
btw, there's a partition manager for kde available in the repos as well (package 'partitionmanager')

Entering kdesudo gparted into the terminal, then entering my password when prompted, worked! I don't know why this was required, but thanks for the suggestion.Comment

Don't know for sure, since I've not used gparted in a good while, but gparted might be using policykit (an alternative method to sudo) in gaining admin privileges by defaut, for example...so you might be experiencing a policykit related issue.Originally posted by rwhubert

It uses the SUDO command for GNOME. This issue is also seen when using the SAMBA GUI tool.Comment
