Adobe Flash wont install in Kubuntu

I am using Kubuntu 11.4 on a Gateway portable as a dual boot with Windows XP. Everything is working just fine with the exception of Firefox can't seem to find a plugin for the Adobe Flash program. There fore no flash ever plays. I have used Ubuntu 7.4 thru 11.4 on three of my other machines and Firefox finds the plugin and installs it but Kubuntu seems not to be able to. Is this a problem for Kubuntu? Where can I fix it?

The Adobe instructions always list 4 different Linux archives but none seem to work. The error always says this is the wrong archive for this system.

by far the easiest way to do this is to install the Flash-Aid extension in firefox and then run the wizard mode

      Hi...

      Welcome to the forums

Flash-Aid can be found here. In case that doesn't work, you can also find Flash player in the repositories.

        Code:
        sudo apt-get install kubuntu-restricted-extras
It will install flash, java, codecs etc.

Re: Adobe Flash wont install in Kubuntu

Firefox Flash-Aid extension is installed, I selected the Wizard mode and the files were installed via the terminal and worked just fine. When I tested it the flash movie content worked fine in Firefox.

Thanks to all three of you for making the suggestions, I tried all three. The restricted extras were already installed and I could not find the list of repositories anywhere. The Synaptic program in Ubuntu shows them very easily but I was unable to find that type of listing in the KPackageKit window. Showed all kinds of software categories and installable programs but the Repository list was nowhere to be found. Flash player never showed up on any of the available lists of available software programs.

Did they hide the repository lists somewhere else in KUbuntu?

This is the first time I have used this forum and it has worked great and you all contributed to my solution and understanding. So much to learn but fun!

You can get Synaptic in Kubuntu as well. Open a terminal and type in:

            Code:
            sudo apt-get install synaptic
Enter your password and click "Y" for Yes when prompted and you should be good to go!

if you don't want all the extra junk synaptic will want to install you can use the command

              sudo apt-get --no-install-recommends install synaptic

shoud install alot fewer packages. it will only install the required packages to make synaptic work

Ardvark71, I took your suggestion and installed the Synaptic program as you instructed and it worked perfectly. Lots of archives coming down but I really didn't care since this is a time to experiment and I wanted lots of info to pick from. Nice to see a familiar tool in Synaptic for installing the things not offered in the standard KUbuntu install program area.

                Thanks
