Firefox is my default browser, so why is Kubuntu asking me which application to use for an http: link? Furthermore, I cannot find Firefox in the dialog that pops up. It does not do anything sane, like give you a list of applications, instead it dumps you into the Dolphin file manager. Should it not already know how to open a link in the default browser, when I click on an email link?

Re: Stupid Newbie Question
You may still have to tell tbird what program to use - it doesn't always follow the system defaults

Re: Stupid Newbie Question
Hi...
Also, it's not a stupid question! I ran into the same problem a while back using Opera and had to ask the same question.

Re: Stupid Newbie Question
Will someone please look at this link and tell me where the pictured "New String Value" field is located. It does not appear anywhere in my version of Thunderbird, which is 3.1.12. It's possible I'm looking in the wrong place.

Re: Stupid Newbie Question
with the config editor open (edit/preferences/advanced/config editor) right click inside the main config editor pane and select "new".
This does seem to be a rather random issue. Oddly, it doesn't happen when you use Chrome or Chromium (as I now do) as the default browser. In my experience from a new install using t'bird as default mailer and firefox as default browser it seemed to happen mainly when I strayed from the default repositories, in my desire to have the latest firefox.

Re: Stupid Newbie Question [SOLVED]
Bravo, it finally works, thanks! What's baffling is that T-Bird was not already set up to direct http, https, and ftp to Firefox by default. That level of neglect is mind-numbing. At least I figured it out with the help of this forum.

Re: Stupid Newbie Question
Thunderbird opens Firefox for me just fine without having to do the specialized setup. Out of curiosity, please go to System Settings | File Associations | text | html. What's in your Application Preference Order list?
