    Shorcuts for applications

I want a custom shortcut like "Ctrl+Meta+E" to Dolphin opens or any other application, something similar to Windows do, I looked in shortcuts and gestures but I don't know how this works yet. I'm using Kubuntu 11.04, KDE 4.6.2

    thx for your help

Go to system settings>shortcuts and gestures>custom shortcuts. Then edit>global shortcut>command/url. Give it a name and then on the right you have tabs comment, trigger and action. In trigger tab type shortcut key combination (i use win(meta) key + some letter). In action tab point to aplication executable in /usr/bin folder.

This is how I do it. I hope this helps 8)

A simpler method is to right-click the Kmenu>Edit Applications...

Choose the application and go to the 'Advanced' tab where you can easily assign shortcut keys.

          Nice tip

I use Meta+E for dolphin, Ctrl+Meta+E for kdesudo dolphin and Meta+R for krunner.

edit: Found one issue with this that might matter to some - keybindings set in the applications menu aren't global keybindings. If something other than the desktop has focus the keybindings don't work

There are so many key combinations that I have never paid attention to until this thread.

It was interesting to learn that Meta+= will repeatedly zoom in on a screen and Meta+- will zoom out.

              One of my favourites is:
              Ctl+Shift+Alt+PageDown = halt without confirmation
              Also:
              Ctl+Shift+Alt+PageUp = reboot without confirmation
              Ctl+Shift+Alt+Del = logout without confirmation
