    Path to system icons

    Kubuntu Natty 64bit, kde 4.6.2

Does anyone know the path to the system icons? Is there an easy way to locate them without help on a forum? If it is searchable, what is an appropriate keyword? Thank you.

    /usr/share/icons

And if you install any icon sets locally (from within KDEs Get New Themes ' program in System Settings icon section), they would end up in ~/.kde/share/icons

There is not an Icon Folder for Icons in ~/.kde/share/. I looked in the /usr/share/icons folder and did not find icons that are provided in the GUI selection I use when changing Icons, for example when I changed the default Kmenu Icon to the multicolored Kmenu Icon on my Desktop.

Using the GUI and right-clicking on the Kmenu, which opens a configuration window that allows you to change the Icons, I select the Icon I want to change; a window opens with the choices for various System Icons: Actions, Animations, etc.. I would like to create my own Icons and save them in that folder so that when I open the current System Icons, they will be included.

Applying your instruction, I opened the 128 pixel selection for Icons and looked in the folder for Icons to see if I would recognize Icons which were familiar. I did not find ones I have used, so I suspect there is another Icon storage area. Is the fact that the Icons I have selected are used in the Plasma Desktop Shell the reason I am unable to find them?

        Thank you.

Please have continued patience with me, however, ~/.kde/share/ does not have a folder named 'icons'. If that is where the system icons are, and I have icons showing in all my applications, where are the icons for my system actually kept?

          Not Here:

          steven@yeshuah:~$ /.kde/share/icons
bash: /.kde/share/icons: No such file or directory
          steven@yeshuah:~$

            Re: Path to system icons

if you install icons as a user, either manually or via the "get new themes" tool in system settings, they go to ~/.kde/share/icons, so if you haven't, there won't be any folders for them

icons and themes have to have specific formatting and locations as per the specifications. Sometimes the naming is not obvious, either.

But they are all in /usr/share/icons, and some may only be made in certain sizes only

also i did miss another location:
            /usr/share/pixmaps

            http://standards.freedesktop.org/ico...ec-latest.html

also, iirc plasma desktop themes can include their own icons for some items as well - systray icons, some plasma applets, which of course muddies it a bit more.

maybe giving us the specifics of what you are trying to do may help clarify what you may need.
