even rootkits are rare, and are not viruses, per se. There already are rootkit checkers out there for Linux. I just do not think that clamav has the capability to check for these, and is also something else to add to the list of baddies to check for.
Another thing to investigate is the *nix user and permissions systems and how they can be used to your advantage.
