    Need help to completely remove flgrx after a disaster install

    Hi geeks,

    I was following instructions to install Ati driver and suddenly it came up with bunch of error. I did all this mentioned below

    $ sudo sh /usr/share/ati/fglrx-uninstall.sh
    $ sudo apt-get remove --purge fglrx fglrx_* fglrx-amdcccle* fglrx-dev* xorg-driver-fglrx

    Then started from scratch
    $ sudo apt-get install build-essential cdbs fakeroot dh-make debhelper debconf libstdc++6 dkms libqtgui4 wget execstack libelfg0 dh-modaliases
    $ cd ~/; mkdir catalyst11.7; cd catalyst11.7/
    $ wget http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/at...x86.x86_64.run
    $ chmod +x ati-driver-installer-11-7-x86.x86_64.run
    $ sudo sh ./ati-driver-installer-11-7-x86.x86_64.run --buildpkg Ubuntu/natty
    $ sudo dpkg -i fglrx*.deb
    $ sudo aticonfig --initial -f

    It still came up with bunch of errors. Then I tried the locate command and I got this:
    /etc/X11/xorg.conf.fglrx-0
    /etc/X11/xorg.conf.fglrx-1
    /etc/X11/xorg.conf.fglrx-2

    Re: Need help to completely remove flgrx after a disaster install

    what we are missing here are a) the method you used to install fglrx, and b) what the "bunch of errors" were. I am guessing it didn't actually install maybe?

    did the process you used actually create the deb files fglrx fglrx-amdcccle fglrx-dev and fglrx-modaliases?

    if so, you can go to the folder where they are and try uninstalling them like this:

    Code:
    cd /the/full/path/to-the/debs
    sudo dpkg -i *.deb
    post any error messages you get

    The best way to install the driver is to use the Additional Drivers application found in the System section.

      Yes I had tried that way also. Today I tried this.

      Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove them.
