    Kubuntu 10 & 11 does not install

    Hardware:
Partition 30GO first position in the extended ( triple boot with XP/seven)
    Chipset Intel I5-2500k (LGA 1155).
Ram 2X2 Go DDR3 dual channel (Corsair XMS3).
Graphic MSI R685 Cyclone (Amd radeon, double screen ( soon 3, possible with Linux ? )
    MB: Asus P8Z68-V pro.
HD: W.D. Caviar Black 1TO on port sata 6Mb Intel (problem remain if sata set in IDE mode in bios)

Steange problems with the mouse during installation process: some input boxes do not take mouse clicks, others yes. Keyboard ok.
The boot loader is in the Kubuntu partition, no swap file for the moment (or inside the kubuntu partition, it was not very clear).
At the end of installation, reboots OK (my pre configured multiboot was untouched and working fine, loading GRUB).
With the 11, i can see the Kununtu waiting screen, with the moving points, then the desktop appears with a box in the middle, and fade-in a hard drive image, and nothing else. I can move my mouse inside.... Hard reset...
Tried the 10, It is better, the desktop appears, and i can move my mouse in. Again some boxes reacts to the mouse, some others not. And no network awailable.
Both CDs were tested with no errors, both with the DVD software and install tool.

And a question: may i share my fist partition (NFS) with my two windows's swap files (and boot files) for the swap of Linux ?

What's the hell? My hardware in too new ? What can i do (i know nothing about Linux's desktops and I'm not a command line freak as we are in 1012...)
Thanks in advance for your help, consider me as a real (and disappointed) newbee in Linux.
    Apologize for my poor English.

Re: Kubuntu 10 & 11 does not install

Well i was able to make a connection (pluged a wifi dongle).
Then updated packages, then updated to 10.10.
Went ok. and my wire connexion went back (why not the first time?)
But because my two scrrens where not seen in configuration ("it looks like you do not need that'), tried to download the propietary (as they said) ATI drivers. Then, i was asked to reboot again, then no more screen at all. Just a little blue band on the left of one of my screens. It is clear this driver f... off the all thing.
    Is that Kuuntu ?
    Nothing never work ?
For a first attempt, it just look like a joke (a very bad one) and pure waste of time. What the hell am-i doing wrong ?
What kind of stange martian language did i have to type in some black box in order to recover this (hum) system ?

I think maybe 95% of your problem is with the double screens setup. Try installing on the system with only 1 screen connected. If that works, then you can research how to add the second screen.

        Thanks for your answer, dibl.

Had tried and it was exactly the same thing...
Anyway, i will not spend my time in réinstalling Kubuntu 10.4 then 10.10, then... again and again....
What can-i do to recover my installation as it was before the ATI drivers, and what to do to get my two screens working at the good size and frequency ?
        Thanks in advance foryour help.

Re: Kubuntu 10 & 11 does not install

I'm an Nvidia user, and so I'm not expert on ATI graphics. But, I would think the basic installation should give you some kind of video. I looked at the 11.04 release notes: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NattyNarwhal...Notes#Graphics and display

There's one mention of a "radeon" error -- I don't know whether that is applicable to your graphics chip. Also, you can get the GPU model with lspci, then search on Ubuntu forums for information about that GPU. There are more posts about video issues on Ubuntu forum than this forum. I would think you would have the best chance with version 11.04.

Does a 11.04 Live CD boot and display correctly on your system? If yes, then with Live CD booted, run lsmod and see what the video driver is. That's the one you want to use on the installed system, at first. Then if there is a proprietary driver offered in System > Additional Drivers, you can try installing that one.

On the SATA drive, you should leave the BIOS mode set to "IDE" while you are installing. After the OS is installed and booting correctly, you can change the mode to AHCI and it should be good to use that way.

          I hope this helps.

I can't understand, why this is not corrected as soon as the bug is found ? 10.10 is not a yesterday release.

Too much posts about issues, in fact ;-. it give-me the feeling i have to forget Linux desktops. A computer is a tool, Imagine a painter spending all his time to build his brush ? And, to be honnest, as a newbee, i do not understand a word of most of those writings.

If i remember well, yes, apart this mouse problem. But, as i found no way to go further than half of the splash screen at the boot after install, i had erased this distro and switched to the 10.4 which was working (a little) better on my system.
BTW: i had no problems with the SATAs, as i said, and no change if i boot in IDE or AHCI. Regarding this point, it was better than windows.

Thanks a lot for your help and care, dibl. It was very nice and i appreciate.
But i think for now that Linux desktops does not reach the minimum requirement for a newbee to be used. Too buggy, too complicated, too expensive because time consuming, too much things to be learned and tweaked just to get a first install working a minimum to be discovered.
Sad to be stuck in giving my money to redmond's poor guys. Sad to have to consider open source is not a "viable" economical system, and understanding better why Linux is unable to take a real place in the consumer 's market, reserved to some very special and specialised kind of geeks. And if this is the conclusion of the old developer i am, imagine my sister in law:"sudo blabla..."
            Forgive-me, please.
