    Ubuntu and Radeon 7500

I've been wanting to switch to linux, in fact, I just finished downloading dapper. One of the things that's holding me back, tho, is 3d support for my video card (I know this is mostly ati's fault). It's an ATI Radeon 7500. I tried searching in the forums, and I found people wanting to get 3d support for their 7500 card, yet I couln't find an answer.

Is it possible to get hardware acceleration/3d support for this card under ubuntu/linux? Is there a guide/how-to that would help me activate/install it?

You should know that i'm a complete linux newbie.

    Any help would be appreciated.

(Sorry if this is the wrong forum)

I could be wrong, but I think what you want is the fglrx driver for ATi cards. It's available through Adept (search for "fglrx" and you'll find the xorg driver package.), but some cards have issues with the newest version. I was one of them with my 9250.

Actually, never mind. Just read on the wiki (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI) that cards below the 8500 series aren't supported. Sorry, I can't help at all here.
