Backtrace Bafflement

Hi,

Could someone please explain to me, just what my problem is? Is it limited to the gui for instance.

I've freshly installed Kubuntu 11.04 but It is very tempremental; The KDE Crash Handler can pop up at reboot with:

Executable: nepomukservicestub PID: 1580 Signal: Aborted (6)*

for instance, and frequentlely the screen freezes and the only (temporary) remedy is to reboot.

* I've hit the button inviting me to install Debug Symbols and the package is succesfully installed, apparently the "generated crash infomation ( a Backtrace) is usefull":

Just questions. Did you verify Kubuntu image file with md5? Did you prepare usb or did you burn CD with the flag verified? Are you sure you installed an undamaged system?

thanks for your interest. I usually do check the ISOs md5 sum... Is there any double checks I should run now?

If you used usb it should be enough. If you burned CD without flag verify and with the full speed it is not sure that CD is without errors. I never heard about some verifying after burning, maybe to burn another CD and compare.

If nobody helps you with your errors, I would recommend to start once more from ISO.

When you boot from the live cd, you should have an option to check the disc for defects. I have had a burn that failed the check in the past.

I've checked the disk and their were no errors.

It's not clear to me how I should be visited by such a problem? Am I to understand the problem is completely unidentifiable and insoluble and people recommend I re-install?

If there are no errors on the disc, how can re-installing be a solution?

I recommended re-installation only in case you are not sure you have undamaged system. You would not have been the first who asked for help in forum with damaged system.

By the way nobody claimed the same problem with Nepomuk on Natty like you have.

what my problem is? Is it limited to the gui for instance.

When the problem is not in the damaged system and it is not limited to the application, but you think it is limited to gui you should try System settings > Desktop effects > switch off. Maybe graphics is on blame
