    bootsplash[s]/splash screen[s] not installing-gives error messages[resolved]

I have just regular Kwin installed on my computer, I don't know how to use Compiz or Emerald or anything, haven't tried experimenting around with them. Mainly because Kwin does the trick for me. But I wanted to install what I thought was a really cool bootsplash, here is the link to it:

    http://kde-look.org/content/show.php...content=110258

The instructions where not clear to me, and when I tried to install the file from the 'splash screen' under the 'workspace appearance', it gve me an error, which states:
    Code:
Could not load theme configuration file
I was confsed about this, so I thought it was something most likely past my current skill level, and I went to find another one, which is located here:

    http://kde-look.org/content/show.php...?content=17651

and this one gave me the error message which states:
    Code:
This theme requires the plugin Default which is not installed.
I searched this on the internet, and came up with zero results, which frustrated me. I then tried this last one, here:

    http://kde-look.org/content/show.php...d?content=8582

Which threw me for a really bizarre loop since it was a .zip file, and I opened it up and it had some pictures and stuff in it. I didn't know what to do from there though.
    Any help would be appreciated!

take a look at section 8.

    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1195275

as you will see it depends on what ver. of grub2 you have ........if your looking for a grub boot splash as is your first web link.

the other 2 links are for the splash that comes up after you enter your password at the login screen........and the theme manager for that is in system settings>workspace appearance>splash screen.

      Re: bootsplash[s]/splash screen[s] not installing-gives error messages

Concerning the bootsplash, I read section 8, and I believe it cleared everything up. I'll try it out once I unpack the tar.gz2 files, or can I simply point GRUB to boot from the tar.gz2 file?

About the splash screens, I knew what they were, and I know how to access them. But those error messages came from when I was trying to install from that section. Do I need to run it as kdesudo?[I know this is a big no-no, which is why I haven't yet] Or is there some other thing?

        Re: bootsplash[s]/splash screen[s] not installing-gives error messages

        The default Kubuntu boot sequence

        The Kubuntu 10.04 and later:

Grub "splash" -> Plymouth -> Login Screen (KDM theme) > KDE splash (KSplashX)

        Earlier/more > Topic: Customizing Kubuntu

        What do you have ?

Square peg in a round hole (?)

        1) http://kde-look.org/content/show.php...content=110258

        It is telling:
This a bootsplash verbose and silent theme using the fbsplash program...
You need the fbsplash program. The default Ubuntu program is the plymouth.

        2) http://kde-look.org/content/show.php...?content=17651

        It is telling:
        KDE 3.x Splash Screen

The KDE is now version 4. The default KDE splash is the KsplashX. It does not understand the older splashes.

        3) http://kde-look.org/content/show.php...d?content=8582

        It is telling:
        KDE 3.x Splash Screen

Do you have the KDE 3.X ?

          Re: bootsplash[s]/splash screen[s] not installing-gives error messages

Ah! No I do not. I have 4.6.2 I believe. So that would be why none of them are working.

I'm not exactly sure about fpsplash/plymouth, so I thought it would work. thats a slip on my part, my apologies. thanks for setting me straight there :P
