internet doesnt work

i downloaded kubuntu today everything works fine but the internet. it shows no internet connection. the internet works on my windows vista server. please help

this is super had to answer mainly because you have not provided us with any useful info to help you.

1. how are we connecting. did u try both wired and wireless.

2. have you checked the wires / password for wireless

3. and most importanly what hardware??

please answer these questions then we might be able to help you (for #3 use the command lshw and copy and paste the network section)

Yes, a sithlord says, we need more info. There are a lot threads in this forum about establishing an internet connection. Some of us are quite expert on this subject. Now , first, welcome to out world. We want you to have a good experience with your new operating system, so we will do whatever we can to solve your problem. The first thing that will happen is we will need to have you run some commands in the terminal and post the output. We'll tell you how to do that. But before we do that, we neeed some basic questions answered.

How do you connect to the internet? Do you have a wired connection to a router or DSL or cable modem or to a router? Or, are you trying to connect with a wireless device?

i am connecting thru wireless
i have checked out the password.
and i dont know what you mean by what hardware
i havent tried to connect with a wired connection

OK, start here. If this page does not solve your problem, or you don't understand the instructions post back with your problem. It would be much easier to help you with this problem if you could connect with a wired connection temporarily.

ok i looked thru there but i got one question i dont know if it pertains to the internet or not but at start up it says


modprobe:FATAL: could not load /lib/modules/2.6.35.22-generic/modules

any suggestions on what that means and what i should do about the internet its still not picking up a signal.

It could be related. Open a terminal (Look for Terminal in the menu) and run the following command:

sudo update-initramfs -u -k all

and see if that fixes the problem.
