Does not show the screen resolution I need 1680x1050, only shows generic and the highest is 800x600. PLEASE HELP THANK YOU in advance.

We always need more information to start out with than what you provided. Please open a terminal and run the command "lspci" and post the results. Thank you.

I tried to run lspci three times nothing happened. Sorry new to this, Kubuntu is installed on an older compaq pc intel celeron first I upgraded memory to max which is only 512mb still runs slow though any ideas on how might make faster, after get monitor issue fixed. I have it hooked up to my lcd screen. All help is really appreciated. Thanks in advance.

No problem, we all start from the beginning.
Did you try running lspci without the quotations? If so, what, if any, error messages did you get? As far as the speed is concerned, you may want to try a distro that is designed specifically for older systems.
