remove or disable akonadi?

from what i understand akonadi exists so that mail/contact/organizer apps can have a central place to draw/store personal info. while this is a great idea, i use the google cloud for all of these things. with the exception of openoffice i've removed all "productivity" apps that i consider to be bloatware.

is there a way to remove OR disable akonadi without ruining everything?

Yup. Tellya how I did it -

I installed akonadiconsole and disabled the akonadi server that way. The down side is you won't be able to reenable it that way as akonadiconsole throws an error if akonadi server isn't running.

i turned off akonadi with no ill effects. what functionality will/might i loose by disabling nepomuk?

Mainly desktop search I think. Run the strigi configuration program (alt+F2 type "strigi" and select the resilting icon) and you can turn off strigi and nepomuk. It will save you a bit of resource, but my take on it is it only seems intrusive when doing it's first run.
